HELLO KITTY® SPARKLES WITH NEW ROCK INSPIRED
DESIGNS

A pop icon with millions of fans worldwide, Hello Kitty is set to shimmer again in
the radiance of Swarovski crystal. The Swarovski Fall/Winter 2012/13 rock
inspired collection will make its mark on jewelry, accessories, and decorative
items.

Hello Kitty’s look is updated this season with Crystal studs, leather, and stars setting the
tone for the jewelry collection. The Hello Kitty Gothic inspired theme places emphasis on
the Pointiage® technique, while the “Angel” and “Devil” pendants offer two
interpretations of the iconic figure.

Chic and modern, the Hello Kitty Rock line plays on the contrast of black and white on a
bracelet, a ring, and two pendants - one on a black cord and the other set on a star in
pave crystal. The leather bracelet creates a graphic look with its crystal rivets and Hello
Kitty motif in hand-applied crystals. Square crystals distinctively shine on a black epoxy
bangle. The rock theme continues with a charm, a coin purse and cardholder in black
leather, embellished with Hello Kitty designs, while another cardholder is entirely
covered with Crystal Mesh for incredible sparkle.

The Hello Kitty Hearts line brings humor and imagination to the collection, with heart
shapes and soft shades of pink. In addition to a bag charm, an iPhone case, and
earphones holder, a striking figurine will be available as a Limited Edition for 2012. This
collectible piece in faceted crystal displays a delicate design of pink hearts, and is
adorned with a bow featuring 600 hand-applied crystals.

Holiday themed jewelry brightens the festivities in a Christmas collection including a
necklace, a pendant, a key ring, charms, and the Hello Kitty Santa figurine. Another
ornamental piece is the Hello Kitty Gold Bow, decorated in black with glittering touches
of gold. The striking Hello Kitty Crystal Pendant Satin is a real technical achievement,
made from a single piece of faceted crystal. Its gray tone is both modern and wearable.

Spectacular and enchanting, the Hello Kitty Limited Edition 2012 is the most outstanding
piece of this new collection. Created entirely in Pointiage®, this figurine sparkles
brilliantly thanks to 23,325 hand-applied crystals. Swarovski demonstrates its skill and
expertise with this stunning piece available in a limited edition of just 88 numbered
pieces.

Kiss x Hello Kitty


Two titans of popular culture are colliding. That’d be Kiss and Hello Kitty. The Hello Kitty Kiss Style Guide has been released and it features the approved images that the licensees can use to make Hello Kitty-themed Kiss items.

Before you go hemming and hawing about the band’s penchant for merchandising and branding reaching “jump the shark” status and effectively becoming overkill, take a peek at the designs. You have to admit they are cute, cool and kitschy, and certainly applicable for the female in your life who happens to like Kiss. Kiss are certainly reaching a new market by partnering with Sanrio and Hello Kitty. With her mysterious stare, there is more to Hello Kitty than meets the eye. Now she’s becoming a total rock star.

Gene Simmons tweeted about the collaboration, posting: “Nov 22nd- Hello Kitty-KISS exploding worldwide. 90 Country roll out. Wow!!!”

So 90 lucky countries will be make effective use of the collision of Kiss and Kitty. Will there be coffee mugs? Figurines? Toasters? Notepads? Lollipops? Lip glosses? Sanrio and Hello Kitty focus on cute, girly items such as the ones we just mentioned, so ladies who are Kiss fans are likely to take advantage of the items produced due to this partnership.

The images of Hello Kitty as the Star Child and the Demon look utterly amazing. One might think that anything to do with Peter Criss‘ Catman would be the most popular of the item, since they are both felines.

Kissopolis also posted a photo of the usable images.

These items will scratch and claw their way into retail outlets in the latter half of 2012. Let’s hope the images inspire licensees to come up with some amazing products.

Forever 21

Forever 21 and Sanrio announce their first exclusive collaboration, a limited-edition Hello Kitty fashion collection featuring women’s apparel, intimates, hosiery, jewelry and accessories. The Forever 21 for Hello Kitty Exclusive Collection will make its debut on November 18th. How freaking cute is this collaboration? I loves it!

The limited-edition styles includes everything from adorable accessories such as jewelry and bags to socks and tights, also pointelle sweaters, logo tees, cardigans—even a maxi-dress! Priced from $3.80 to just under $30, the limited-edition Forever 21 for Hello Kitty Exclusive Collection will be available in stores and online.

Benefit for Japan in Tokyo


House of Hello Kitty' opens in Tokyo to Benefit Earthquake Relief

Attention Hello Kitty fans and lovers of all things sparkling and glittery: the world-famous Kitty has teamed up with Austrian crystal brand Swarovski for a special 'House of Hello Kitty' event at Omotesando Hills in Tokyo.

Personalities supporting the event include model Ai Tominaga, prop stylist and flower master Musubi Aoki, flower artist Makoto Azuma, food artist Ayako Suwa, art director Rikako Nagashima, and costume designer Kodue Hibino. In addition, members of the K-Pop group KARA and the J-Pop singer ICONIQ were expected to be at the 'House of Hello Kitty' opening party, lending their support as well.

From Thursday, June 30th to Monday, July 10, 'House of Hello Kitty' visitors can participate in an "art object rally" and enter a specially designed Hello Kitty room, as well as purchase 31 Swarovski crystal-adorned Kitty goods - all to benefit the Japanese Red Cross Tohoku earthquake relief.

Popular self-serve frozen yogurt chain Yogurtland announced that it will partner later this month with Sanrio, whose most popular brand is Hello Kitty.

The Anaheim-based frozen yogurt chain plans to feature special Hello Kitty spoons and cups in stores later this month to celebrate the partnership, said Larry Sidoti, the chain’s vice president of development and operations. Yogurtland will also feature Hello Kitty merchandise in some of its stores.

“There’s a lot of cultural compatibility between the two companies—especially in business practices,” Sidoti said.

Yogurtland, which operates 130 shops, will host a launch party to celebrate the partnership at its Beverly Connection store in Los Angeles on July 20. Stay tuned for more details.

Theme Park in China 2014

Kawaii!! Hello Kitty theme park coming to China in 2014

Office ladies rejoice! Plans have been announced for a theme park that would bring Hello Kitty and her blank-faced cohorts to China. Purveyors of kawaii kitsch Sanrio Co., Ltd. have reached an agreement to license their characters to Zhejiang Yinrun Leisure Development for a theme park project in Zhejiang's Anji county, an hour and a half's drive northwest from Hangzhou.

CNNGo reports that, at 1.5 billion RMB, the investment for Sanrio's park will be much lesser than Disney's 24.5 billion RMB investment in their new park. Construction for the new park is slated to begin next July, with completion set for 2014.

Though there are conflicting statements about the projected size of the park, with 0.6 km² and 0.095 km² both being reported, the park will still be significantly smaller than the new Shanghai Disneyland (4 km²).

The park will be Sanrio's first international outing, following Tokyo's Sanrio Puroland, and the Hu Jintao-pleasing Harmony Land.

And so China's tourists will soon have not one but two infantilizing multinational corporations vying for their hard-earned disposable income.

We once heard that Hello Kitty's success was related precisely to her lack of a mouth or any discernible expression, making her a blank slate on which her audience could project whatever emotion they wished.

Still, that's probably a lesser criticism than Charles Bukowski's rebuke of Mickey Mouse, who Bukowski referred to as a 'three-fingered son-of-a-bitch with no soul, for Christ's sake.'
